Lake Garda

Between Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige, Lake Garda stretches from steep Prealpine shores in the north to open moraine hills in the south. In a few dozen kilometres the landscape shifts from Monte Baldo’s ridgelines to Mediterranean light—cypress, olive, and water the colour of brushed steel. It is a place that feels both intimate and vast: ferry crossings, cliffside villages, and long evenings when the wind finally softens.

Lake Garda invites slower exploration. Days might unfold along the trails of Monte Baldo, on a ferry between Malcesine and Limone, cycling quieter inland lanes, tasting Bardolino or Lugana above the shore, or watching the Ora wind fill sails off Riva. Each side of the lake has its own tempo—alpine and elemental to the north, softer and more cultivated as the water widens south.

On Lake Garda, where you stay shapes the journey. Historic lakeside hotels, discreet hillside villas, and small harbour inns sit close to the water—or above it, with terraces open to the Prealps. We look for places with a clear sense of shore and season: morning light on the lake, evening ferries, and rooms that feel connected to the landscape rather than sealed away from it.
